Cougar Canyon’s School Plan: Cougar Canyon is working on a Literacy Goal this year. We are focused on learning to assess reading in a new way which provides teachers with new data to inform their teaching.
Cougar Canyon’s Inquiry Question: If we focus on assessing students’ reading skills in a new way, and adapt our teaching according to our findings, will this have a positive impact on student learning?
School Initiatives so far:
Intermediate Teachers are focusing on doing the screening test (ORF) to give teachers a real sense of students’ fluency and then they will be making decisions regarding instructional strategies to improve student learning that is geared towards the learners
Primary Teachers are focusing on doing the appropriate assessments (concepts of print, phonemic/phonological awareness, ORF, etc) and getting to know students’ specific strengths and stretches. They are moving towards changing teaching practice based on what they find
